I'm creating a webmap of georeferenced historical maps which, though it will be hosted on my organization's AGOL portal, will pull data from a standalone ArcGIS Server.
I've experimented with hosting the data on both the image server and the map server. While the image server has a slightly faster refresh rate when panning or zooming compared to the map server, the latter has better resolution at smaller scales (for my purposes, 1:1,000,000 or smaller).
I've read some documentation about the differences between the two servers, but it's still not clear to me which would be the better solution for hosting georeferenced maps. I'm new to this process, so I don't have a reference for how this works. Does anyone who's tried this before have a recommendation?
