I would like to learn how to enter (where to find) a token to use different layers. For example one of our organization members wants to add a layer but I do not know where to get the token url to enter. When I click on the layer's description the resulting web page is
http://landscape1.arcgis.com/arcgis/rest/login?redirect=http%3A//landscape1.arcgis.com/arcgis/rest/s...

This webpage says
ArcGIS Server REST API Login
To login to Services Directory when your site is federated to a portal, you must enter a token. To acquire this token, go to https://www.arcgis.com and enter 'http://landscape1.arcgis.com/arcgis/rest' for the 'Webapp URL' parameter

When I go to https://www.arcgis.com I do not see any place to enter a 'Webapp URL' parameter. Any suggestions?

Hello Mike,
I think I figured out the problem. I just wasn't zoomed in enough to see the layer!! The map was saved at an extent where the layer was not active so it looked like it wasn't working - thank you so much for your help!

What exactly are you trying to do?

A token is a system generated key that allows you to access the layer. To get a token, you supply a valid username and password. Typically, if you're a developer, you have to deal with tokens. If you're using an application like ArcGIS.com, the token is generated for you.

It seems like you are trying to access some Esri Landscape data. Can you provide a URL to an item in ArcGIS Online?

Thanks,

Mike

I am trying to make a web map with layers that will stay accessible. This map is for a K-12 teacher who will use it for her classroom and perhaps for homework assignments. So it will be best if she can trust that the layer will be there whenever needed or if that is not possible she will need to know how to obtain it quickly to show to her students.

Here are two URL that I hope will help:

This is a URL for the map with the layer that is not showing up and requires a token

http://bit.ly/1nZjLk8

This is the URL to the layer that shows in the item details

http://landscape1.arcgis.com/arcgis/rest/services/USA_Ntv_Lands/MapServer

which is:
landscape1.arcgis.com/arcgis/rest/services/USA_Ntv_Lands/MapServer

Thanks!

Using those Esri layers requires an organizational subscription. Am I correct in assuming that you are a member of an organizational subscription but the teacher is not? Here's some text from the description of this layer:

Important Note: This layer is available for users with an ArcGIS Organizational subscription. To access this layer, you'll need to sign in with an account that is a member of an organizational subscription.  If you don't have an organizational subscription, you can create a new account and then sign up for a 30 day trial of ArcGIS Online. This service is currently in beta. For more information, see the Landscape Layers group on ArcGIS Online.

So, if the teacher signs up for a 30 day trial, would that be a sufficient amount of time?

Thanks,

Mike

I am an administrator of the organization and the teacher is a publisher in the organization.

You should just be able to make the map and share it with the organization. You don't need to get a token. Since the teacher is in the organization, they will need to sign in to their account, but should have no trouble seeing the layers in the map. You should add the layer from within the map viewer, Add menu. Choose Browse Esri Layers and find the layer.

Thanks,

Mike
