Hi-

Is there a way I can make just these two lighter color tracts black without changing anything about the layer?

I'm curious to see what people say is the best way. I've always wondered what the best technique is for common stuff like this.

I'd COPY the layer, which is really just a new reference pointer to the layer, and then use a filter by # to show only the tracts of interest, then change the styling.

This ESRI Blog Post should give you some ideas. One important thing to note is that this only works with the new map viewer *and* ESRI mobile apps that utilize the 4.x API. If you're using the Classic Map Viewer or a mobile app like Explorer, it won't work since they use the 3.x API.

Wow, great blog post! Maybe not the answer the original question was asking, but very cool! It seems like either doing the dupe and using a filter with the unique FIPS numbers or some other attribute if you can is still the way to go.
