I am new here and recently picked up some interest in learning GIS, and was going through the Getting started with GIS course and wanted to know if there is a free (non-trial) version to complete some of the exercises? I did one exercise without any issues but the second one recommended...

To complete exercises, you need the following:

  • ArcGIS Desktop 10.7 (Basic, Standard, or Advanced)
  • ArcGIS Online

So I tried the ArcGIS online to follow the steps but couldn't locate "ArcMap" to familiarize with the interface.

Click the Start menu, and choose All Programs.

Expand the ArcGIS folder, and click ArcMap.

In the ArcMap Getting Started window, click Cancel.

If you do not see the ArcMap Getting Started window, complete the following steps:

  • At the top of ArcMap, click Customize.
  • Click ArcMap Options.
  • In the ArcMap Options window, click the General tab.
  • Under Startup, check Show Getting Started Dialog.
  • Click OK to close the window.

Hi Renoy,

You can get ArcGIS for Personal Use for approx $100 US to complete the exercises. It includes ArcGIS Desktop (which ArcMap is a part of).

ArcGIS For Personal Use | Buy ArcGIS Software Online

Hope this helps,
