When I add a new Layer named "cities" and apply a symbology for the cities by country, I get the layer name and the field used for the symbology in the legend.

The legend shows as follows:

cities (layer name)
cities (field name)
... (symbology)

The Layer Name can be renamed, so can the field name, but it is not possible to remove/hide the field name, which is redundant in cases like this. It would be great if we could hide the layer name and the field name when required.

This issue is described here as well: How to display no field heading text in the legend... - Esri Community

This ability is very much needed.

The workaround to the above issue is, I removed field name and added a single space and saved the field name (as the field name cannot be left blank). This seemed to work for me.

This way I could hide the field name in the legend.

I have used this workaround of using a single space as the field name for several years, but it seems the latest release no longer allows this. I was able to use a series of underscores, but the result is not as nice.

Esri, please add a toggle to show/hide the field name in Map Viewer legends. These field names are not meant to be publicly viewed and their names are redundant to the layer names.
