In the layout on the AGOL Map Viewer Beta, there doesn't seem to be an analog to the "About Map" option on the current AGOL Map Viewer. It's important to provide a spot for a high level description of the Map. Was in intentional to exclude this, or is it in there somewhere? If it is, it's certainly not in an intuitive place. It shouldn't be somewhere that requires you to bounce to the item page.
