Road Network Buffer and Lease Roads

I have been asked to create road network buffers around a service yard. We are wanting to calculate the distance from our yard to a well site using this buffer. Only problem is a lot of well sites are off the main roads, some .5-5 miles off the main roads. What buffer is best to use general or detailed? If they are wanting a 25 mile buffer, do I need to create a 22.5 mile buffer to calculate for the possible off road mileage?

If you are unsure of what buffer distance to use. I suggest that you use the Near function. This will help you draw a histogram from the result and you can see how the wells are spread, and then you can make a more informed guess as you have some numbers to discuss.
