I’d like to suggest an enhancement for the Community Map basemap. It would be helpful if the labels within the Community Map could be separated into a standalone reference layer, similar to how the Light Gray Canvas basemap is set up
We’ve recently adopted the Community Map as our primary campus-wide basemap, and while doing so, we’ve received feedback regarding the visibility of labels — especially when placing other features or data layers on top of the basemap in various interactive web maps (see attached picture).
Having the ability to separate the labels would allow us to bring them above feature layers when needed, improving their legibility and helping us better meet visual accessibility guidelines.
Thank you for considering this suggestion, and please let me know if I can provide any additional context or examples
@SpenceHenderson, we will take this suggestion of supporting reference-only maps in the Living Atlas into consideration. Thank you for posting.
Customization - any variation to fully or partially remove labels or other features - can be achieved through the Vector Tile Style Editor. You can start with any of the styles and turn off specific layers, leaving only labels, to create a reference layer. Repeat the process turning off the opposite layers (labels) to create the base. These copies of the style with edits specific to your needs - in your ArcGIS Online Content and can use it in your maps and apps.
It’s a good idea to separate and give flexibility.
