My question is:  do i need a Google maps license to use google maps tiles in my web application
Please tell me what i need to do?

Simple answer is if you run your app in Intranet or https then yes you need to get the enterprise license, if it is public facing then you can use the free license but with transaction limit and subject to potential (future) advertisement.

Ask your lawyer to review google's most recent "term of use" to be sure.

Hi nliu,
Thank you for your answer
but i'm waiting for a clear answer, may be ESRI Stuff can explain this.
Google sayed that we may not access the maps or satellite images through any mechanism besides the Google Maps APIs (see the paragraph Can I access the Maps and Satellite images directly? in this link)
Does it mean that there is not a license to use google maps tiles in ESRI javascript API ?.
If yes how to get license.

As I understand it, Google's terms require that you use their API to access their map tiles. The sample you linked to above wraps the Google API. To me, this is a gray area. I'm not sure what Google would think of this. It technically seems like the method used in the sample is in line with Google's TOS but you probably want to have a lawyer interpret that.

Hi Derek
Can you give me the ESRI official decision for this subject
What's about the ArcGIS Extension for the Google Maps API?

There's nothing more to say. What you're asking is specific to Google's terms of service.

This forum is not an official support channel, it's purely for discussion.

The extender for Google Maps (which is no longer being maintained or updated) works because it is an extension to the Google Maps API. That product provided a way to use ArcGIS Server services on top of Google's v2 Maps API.
