Measurement capabilities

Hi,

I am trying doing some developements using the ArcGis APi for JavaScript versin 3.9.

I wan to developpe a measurement tool but without using the Measurement Class

var measurement = new Measurement({

              map: map

}, dom.byId("measurementDiv"));

The above code creates a measurement widget with a coordinates, distance an a measurement area.

So I am wondering  if t is possible to developpe a measurement tool without using the Measurement class ?
