Hey everybody,

I was wondering if there is a way to retrieve the position of a particular graphic within the map.graphics layer.

Lets say I use the draw tool and add 3 arrows to my map. The first arrow I created is number 1, the second one is number 2 and the third is number 3. Depending over which of the 3 arrows I hover I would like to know which number it is within the map.graphics layer.

Is this possible?

Thanks,

Tim

Tim,

  There seems to always be one graphic in the map.graphics array but you definitely can count the graphics creation order.

var infoTemplate = new InfoTemplate();

var theid=1;

  graphic.setAttributes({"Name":"arrow","id":theid});

map.graphics.on("mouse-over", function(e){

            //get the associated node info when the graphic is clicked

            alert(graphic.getContent());

          });

I used a variable theId so you could increment or whatever.

The alert is annoying, you can load a popup or something (a <div> that floats).

if you click it, you get a popup

Thanks Paul.

So that means I would have to number each new Graphic? I was thinking maybe the graphics layer assigns each graphic that it contains a number.

doesnt look like it. You can check for the keys in the object using

for (var key in graphic){

  alert(key+": "+graphic.key);}

I don't see any obvious key for an ID.

That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure.

And for the geometry

graphic.setAttributes({"Name":"arrow","id":theid,"x":graphic.geometry.x,"y":graphic.geometry.y});
