Customize the style for the search bar

The above is the default styling for the search bar.

Is there any way to customize the style of this search bar? Our designer asks me to style it according to his custom design. It is a completely different look. I most likely need to modify both the HTML and CSS to achieve it. I am not sure this widget allows for that level of customization.
