Featured App of the Week

NCC Beaches Water Quality Map| See it in the Wild

Featured App Info

For this week's featured app of the week, is a series of maps about public beaches using Map Journal , made by NCC! This app features an overview Water Quality map and detailed beach locations for each site.

Why This App is Fantastic: Great organization of content and it's bilingual

    • The initial map allows users to see a quick overview of water quality, visually identifying water quality based on the visible legend. The information panel also allows users to navigate to their location of choice by clicking on the beach name.
    •
    • Each beach description includes an informational map that indicates amenities as well as the beach location. The side description includes text information like lifeguarding hours, and if there are concessions available.
    •
    • his is a great example of a bilingual app. The NCC creates content in both French and English. Click on the Français link to see the French version of the app. The data and content has been created in both French and English as separate apps, as mentioned in this blog . There are links to each language of the app in the top/bottom left hand corner.
    •
    • This app relies on the browser language setting to apply localization settings and translate tool tips and element labels. To view this app fully localized, append "&locale=fr" to the French app url.

Goat Tracker by the City of Roseville| See it in the Wild

Click on the image of the app to open the interactive app. Search for 116 ROADHOUSE CT to find a location in the City of Roseville

Featured App Info

This week's featured app is an app that tracks the City of Roseville's Goat herd using Basic Viewer configurable app. Goat grazing is an environmentally sensitive way to mitigate fire hazards by clearing potentially combustible foliage. The City of Roseville has been employing these goat herds for over 10 years. This article describes goat grazing in more detail.

Why This App is Awesome: Specific Tool Selection, Theming and Goat Herds

  • This app only displays the tools that are useful for the viewers, creating a simple, easy to use design. The details tool provides some quick information about goat grazing and the legend helps users quickly understand the grazing status, herd location and bike trails. Other tools are available through this template but are not needed to communicate this information to the community.
  •
  • A custom geocoding service is used in the application. This allows a focused search for locations in a locator managed by the City of Roseville. Search for 116 ROADHOUSE CT to find a location in the City of Roseville
  •
  • The green theming of the app matches the symbology for the Grazing areas and herd location. The logo of the City of Roseville nicely brands the app.
