Fairly new to Indoors, but working a project with data that's aimed to be used in an Indoors model. I've read through some documentation, watched videos, and have gone through some of the instructor-led videos, but I'm a little lost in taking the data I have access and connecting it to what Indoors needs to set up the floor-aware model. I don't know if that's because the data we have isn't set up the way it needs to be or we just don't have the right data? The Esri documentation lists the first step as bringing in a .DWG CAD file or a BIM equivalent. We have neither of those. We do have a bunch of floorplan-type shapefiles. Is that what we need or does it have to be CAD/BIM?
The video demos make it look easy of just loading your data, clicking the connections in the properties and it's set up, but I'm feeling lost on the data component. What do I need to be looking for to start?
Hello,
ArcGIS Indoors can be implemented a few ways depending on what functionality you want.
For a barebones set up, I used the create Indoors dataset, without the attribute rules and without branch versioning.
There are tools to import CAD or BIM data, however you can also use existing GIS data. You will have to make sure that it fits the information model for the version you are using. After prepping the GIS data to make sure it had the required fields added to each feature type, I used the append tool to add the features to the Indoors Dataset.
This is obviously a very simplified explanation, so read through the provided documentation and links in those pages. If you have access to the User Conference Proceedings, check out the sessions related to Indoors, that was somewhat helpful.
