Linked Revit models as input to ArcGIS Indoors

Hello!  I've been working a bit recently converting Revit models into ArcGIS Indoors models using the 'Import BIM To Indoor Dataset' tool.  Generally so far so good!

But, I'm having some difficulty working with linked Revit models (a separate model for each floor of a large building).  I can choose the host model 'Floorplan_Polygon' layer as the initial input to the tool, and this brings up the list of linked files to choose.  All good at this stage.

But, host models are actually empty, they do not carry any data, all the data are in the linked models.  So when I have to specify the 'Input BIM rooms layer' the host rooms layer doesn't work because it's empty.  I have also tried using all the linked files 'Rooms' layers as input for this part of the tool, but the Units layer does not get populated.

Would be good to know if my workflow needs adjusting or whether this is more of an issue with the tool itself.  Anybody had similar experiences or have any recommendations?

Thanks
