Why did Hub get rid of map-based search?

The best feature of Open Data was the map based search, which complemented the search facets. Getting rid of map-based search entirely in new Hub pages is not something my organization would like. Is there a way to revert an Open Data site to show the map search by default again? Thanks!

Previous map based search available in Open Data

map-based search (previously available via Open Data sites)

Same search in Hub (no map-based search available)

current Hub search page (without any map based search)

I second Sara's concern. Although I strongly support the evolution from OpenData into Hub (which I believe will have a good impact on community engagement), the broader open geospatial data community still needs good data curation and discovery tools. I can fully understand why the map-based interface as it currently stands isn't particularly useful. But I think that, paired with a stronger search by geography facet, visual exploration can become the primary mode of interaction. This would of course require stronger search by geographies, vague geographies, and stronger geoparsing of search queries.
