Dataset item pages are no longer loading correctly from /datasets/ hyperlinks in a new browser tab. Users receive a 404 error page.  Tested in Google Chrome.

E.g.

https://naturalengland-defra.opendata.arcgis.com/datasets/special-protection-areas-england

See Latest Releases hyperlinks at https://naturalengland-defra.opendata.arcgis.com

Latest updated items

When clicking on any of the above links a new browser tab opens and this happens.

404 error

However when clicking on the links from the all items search page or via the category search widgets the item pages open OK in the same browser tab.

All items search

OK page

Please help.  I have been creating the open new browser tab individual item page links this way for over a year and never had any issues before. Why would these suddenly stop behaving?

Has someone made a change to the ArcGIS Hub site?  I do have a support enquiry with Miguel Paredes at ESRI UK about some layers not downloading - see home page Important Information section. He is in conversation with an ESRI Inc. Analyst about this at the moment in Redlands but I don't have the name.

Andy, we have a fix underway for this issue. It should be released w/in the next half hour. We apologize for this error and have added additional automated testing to prevent it from recurring. We are developing automated methods to detect these types of issues much more quickly in the future. That should prevent you from having to report this at all. Again, we are very sorry for this error.

Hi Daniel Fenton‌,

Since the last ArcGIS Hub updates deployed by ESRI in early March 2019, the issues reported last year above have started to reoccur. Some URLs including dataset names (rather than unique IDs) are no longer routing to the items.  Users receive a 404 error page.  Please provide a fix as soon as possible, as this is affecting many items listed on our site.

See https://naturalengland-defra.opendata.arcgis.com/

and https://naturalengland-defra.opendata.arcgis.com/pages/updates

Some examples of URLs from our latest releases, which are no longer re-routed to the items are below.  I am sure there may be many more, but I do not have time to trawl the whole site to give you a full list of URLs affected.

Hi Andy,

My site is returning a 404 error when navigating through our category buttons in EDGE. The data loads as expected when I search for, and select, a specific layer. The application works as expected in Chrome.

Hi Andrea,

Did you receive any resolution for this issue? We are experiencing the same issue of the 404 error when using the Category buttons, but the data loads when searching and selecting a specific layer. We are having issues with all browsers.

Hi Melissa,

We are still experiencing this issue, but it’s not as consistent as it used to be. Looking at our Analytics for the last month, it looks like it happened 19 times across Chrome, Safari, and Edge.

Thanks,

Andrea

I'm working with ESRI support now so will post here if we find any resolution. It only seems to work correctly on the newest version of IE.

We use tags for the categories instead of groups, and if we switch to using a group it works correctly. We also tested creating a new site with tags for categories and it worked fine, so the issue is only with our existing site.

Thanks,

Melissa
