Attention ArcGIS Hub Premium customers! Exciting changes are coming soon to Hub initiatives. When released, enhanced initiatives will offer a new way for you to effectively manage resources and projects to achieve long-term objectives.

Initiatives are a way to organize and communicate broader goals and objectives to your community. But now, initiatives have their own layout, to better capture and bring visibility to your efforts.

These redefined initiatives will include a range of tools, including metrics, which can be customized to track combined impact of multiple projects.

Sites, initiatives, and projects

Enhanced initiatives will fit neatly between sites and projects. Initiatives will be easier to create and update, like projects, thanks to a structured layout.

A single site can feature multiple initiatives and projects. Similarly, you can connect initiatives and projects to one or more sites. Use initiatives to help organize a set of delegated projects around a common set of goals.

Redefined initiatives

Hub sites will remain a reliable way to build a website for a multitude of purposes. Sites allow you to control and customize your web presence, including the URL, branding and them, layout, and navigation.

Create and manage initiatives with workspaces

To use enhanced initiatives, you will need to enable workspaces. Workspaces will be the new way to manage items in Hub, providing more efficient navigation and more consistency across item types.

Workspaces will have a live view for featuring items on a site. If you are building Hub projects, you are already using a workspace.

Existing sites and initiatives

Previously created initiatives will become independent sites with all the same apps and data. You will not lose existing items, groups, or site/ page layouts. You will be able to remove empty initiative(s) in ArcGIS Online. And, a Premium license still unlocks powerful tools, such as events, community identities, projects, and discussion boards.

Be on the lookout for the release of enhanced initiatives. You can check the change log for release notes. Please post any comments or questions on Esri Community.
