You may use SDE or a file gdb. The rest of your workflow depends on your project type: ArcGIS Mobile, ArcPad, Terrasync, or Terraflex. What Dave is referring to is for ArcGIS Mobile.
No you do not need SDE. Positions will create a mobile cache of your data, utilizing Project Manager. You then synchronize your cache back into the database. Positions requires a file geodatabase. As long as you are up to date on your maintenance with Correct and Analyst, you can convert for free, just contact your Trimble dealer/reseller.
Hello,
Has anyone done any testing to see if the newest positions release (10.1.1) is compatible with the latest arcgis for windows mobile release (10.1.1 as well, coincidentally). I only ask because the latest documentation from trimble explicitly says 3.1.1 is required.
Thanks
