Making a layer un-selectable

I'm working on creating a mobile map for a sewer cleaning data collection tool.  I have a "basemap" layer of parcels that I want to be visible, but not selectable. Is this possible?  I don't have ArcGIS server at this point so I cannot create a "mobile basemap layer", which theoretically sounds like what I'm trying to accomplish.
Thanks for any help!

Hi Sean,

I assume you are using ArcGIS Mobile 10, correct? It wasn't until 10 release that Esri offered Desktop usage in addition to Server usage. Are you using Mobile Project Center (MPC)? You can change the Layer Settings in MPC for Operational Map Layers including the Editable property. If you uncheck the Editable property, the Edit Form will be disabled and if disabled the map layer doesn't support editing.

Thanks Denise.
I am using ArcGIS Mobile 10 and mobile project center.  I have made the layer un-editable, however it can still be selected.  The issue is really with zooming in the mobile map.  If I try to select a sewer line which runs through a parcel, the program will select both the sewer line and the parcel and automatically zoom out.  I'm just trying to simplify the operation for field workers so it is as simple as possible.  They have no need for selecting a parcel, but it appears that I cannot make that happen currently.
It would be helpful for those of us using desktop software if we could make a layer unselectable, creating somewhat of a "basemap" layer.

Hi, it sounds like you're looking for the "Searchable" checkbox. That still keeps the layer viewable, but not selectable as you said.

Curiously, the AMP file for the project stores this as "queryable" so if you manually edit the amp file really quick changing "queryable" to false, it will also do the same thing.
