Error adding ArcGIS Server Map Cache to ArcGIS Mobile

Hi,

I am trying to use the new ArcGIS Mobile licence you now get with ArcGIS Desktop 10.  I have installed Mobile Project Center and managed to create a map cache and add it as an operational map layer.  However I am having problems when trying to add a base map layer, in particular an ArcGIS Server Map Cache.  I copied the whole map cache from the server to the local PC that I have Mobile Project Center installed on but when I point it to the config.xml file I get the following error:

Error:FullExtent required for this service.

I found this post http://resources.arcgis.com/content/kbase?fa=articleShow&d=37939 but have had no success.  I am using a map cache that has been built at 9.3.1 so maybe that is the problem?

Any ideas what might be causing this error?

Thanks!

Hi Cameron-

I'm having problems using the cache in Mobile as well, please see my thread. Your solution might be solved when loading your project. Once you download the project there's an option to "Get Data" which has a slide bar of extents. You likely want to slide it over to the "Full Extent". I hope this solves your problem.  Aaron

Just an FYI with this one...  There is a bug logged for it under NIM059380: Export map server cache tool fails with "error 001132: Failed to export cache" when connecting to an ArcGIS server on the network.

There are some workaround methods listed in the bug:
1. ArcGISSOC account must have access to destination cache directory
2. Desktop User that is exporting must have access to the source & destination directories
3. If the mapservice is using a cache directory which is local to the server then change it use a UNC path.
The same workaround is required for import & convert tools when desktop & server users are different and are not local to server setup machine.

This bug was listed as fixed at 10 sp1, make sure you have that installed with ArcGIS Mobile (2475).

Ok, so it turns out that it didn't like the 9.3.1 ArcGIS Server Map Cache but now I have another problem.

I installed 10 on a dev box and created a new map service based on an mxd that had its extent changed to custom extent.  I created a map cache (exploded) and then copied it to location that ArcGIS Mobile Project Center could access it.  I added it in as a base map layer and it came up on the map.  I saved the project as a wmpk.  However, when I opened the wmpk the screen was blank and when I try to zoom in to an area I get the following error (see attachment).

It seems to not be able to access the bottom left extent I guess?  Anybody got any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi Cameron,

I am experiencing the same issue as the one you experienced.

How did you resolve this issue?

Kind Regards,
