I created a trial account, installed the Maps for Excel plugin, but when I try to sign in from Excel it says "Login failed due to incorrect username and/or password".  Is there a waiting period or something?  I know I'm typing it in correct, and updated my password in my online account just to be safe.

I was able to create an account, download and install the program, and start working with it with no waiting period.

I am having a similar problem with a different error message (see attached).  From within the Excel spreadsheet, I can't log in using my ESRI Global Account.  Did you ever discover the problem?

Hi Brian,

That error message indicates that you are trying to login with a personal account. Esri Maps for Office requires an account that is part of ArcGIS Online organizational subscription.

Thank you Katy.  That explains everything.  I must have missed that central fact in my enthusiasm to use this tool.  I will try to uninstall.  Thanks very much for responding, who knows how much time I would have fretted away.  Brian

Thanks again Katy.  I wonder whether the need for an ArcGis Online organizational subscription is well understood.  I know that I missed the difference.  Because I have access to ArcGis Online through my personal account, I assumed that I was an ArcGis Online subscriber and would have access to Esri Maps for Office.  The recent article in "ArcNews" on page 22 about Esri Maps for Office said that, "All that's needed to get started using Esri Maps for Office is an ArcGIS Online paid or trial subscription."

I am not quite sure about my relationship with ArcGis Online, but will try to understand the distinction.  I just wonder if it might be confusing to others out there.  Thanks again for your answer.

Hi Brian,

I just wanted to let you know that we (Esri) absolutely understand the confusion regarding ArcGIS Online accounts (personal and organization) and are working to clarify that confusion where we can. Please do let me know if you have additional questions or concerns.

Thanks,
Katy

Hi Katy,  I've installed ESRI maps for office on my laptop, and it worked once, but now it won't accept street addresses.  I have formatted the data into columns for Street Address (1234 Street), City, State, but it won't take the street address.  I have tried streets from several different cities, and it won't take them.  I geocoded them to lat and long just to test, and that works, and just putting in the city and state works, but it won't lookup locations by street address.

Suggestions?  I tried "repairing" Excel, and uninstalling and re-installing the plug in.  no good.

Thanks 🙂

Hi Patrick,

Can you tell me what is it doing when it won't geocode? Do you receive an error about it not being able to find certain locations? Feel free to add a screenshot.

Thanks,
Katy
