Hello,

I have just downloaded Esri Maps for Office to test it out and when I open Excel and click on the Esri Maps tab, I get the following error:

Functionality such as the following will not be available due to the configuration of your Portal for ArcGIS

  • Share Map

  • Share Layer

  • Add Excel Data using the Address Location Type

  • Select Features by drawing a rectangle

  • Find Near Selection

Currently I have Portal for ArcGIS configured to use Windows Integrated Authentication and I have a federated ArcGIS Server with it.  I cannot determine what about my configuration is causing this issue.  If anybody has any suggestions about what might be the issue I would greatly appreciate your help.

Thank you,
Rob

Rob,  Did you ever get this figured out?  I'm having the same problem.

Thanks much,

Chris

Hi -

I'm a product engineer on the Maps for Office dev team. Just saw your question and passed it along to some of the other folks on the team that are more familiar with Portal. According to them, it sounds like "the Portal this user is connecting to is not configured with a dedicated hosted server. As I do not see that in his description. Also we show these messages when we could not identify a hosted server configured in the Portal."

You can find more information about configuring hosting servers at the following help link:

http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.2/index.html#//017s0000006n000000‌

Let me know if this helps!

Hi Scott,

I really appreciate your response. This is helpful. So basically much of

the functionality for ESRI Maps for office requires a hosted server on

Portal for ArcGIS or using tokens to publish services to ArcGIS Online?

Thanks,

Rob

That's correct, you'll need a hosted server to use most of the Maps for Office functionality.

HI Scott.

My ESRI Maps for Office used to work great.  I had an ESRI consultant install Portal, that it did not work for some reason we are trying to figure out.  Portal was installed but ever since then I am getting the same error message.  The Server and my desktop were re-stated after the uninstall, still getting the error message.

Any ideas?

Much appreciated,

Alain

Alain,

I think you may want to run through or double check the steps hereArcGIS Help (10.2, 10.2.1, and 10.2.2) . For some reason I seem to recall having to reconfigure the hosting server at one point for a similar issue.

Great - good luck.  Some other things you may want to double check if you haven't already.

Working with Portal—Esri Maps for Office | ArcGIS

We have the same problem here. We do not use portal but instead just ArcGIS Online.

Did the privileges recently change? I am trying to follow the chart found on Configure ArcGIS Maps for Office—ArcGIS Maps for Office | ArcGIS  to determine what I need to use. We want our users to geocode using our internal geocoders - and not one from Esri. This is the default geocoder for my profile on ArcGIS Online.

Any suggestions appreciated,

   Alison
