Offline map taking forever to package

Hi all,

I have a map with several offline map packages that have been in use for over a year (and periodically repackaged during that time). I just added a layer and made some small changes to other layers (just labeling and popups), and now my offline packages are packaging interminably. I deleted them all and recreated them from scratch and the new ones are doing the same thing. A colleague is simultaneously having the same issue with an offline map for a Field Map that also had an existing offline map, and hers is smaller and simpler than mine and was originally created after the June 2026 update to AGO. I made a new map a few days ago and packaged an offline area with no issues.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

Update: As a test, I just made a new map with a single layer (our most basic data collection template, which we include in almost every one of our Field Maps maps, including one I made last week) and its offline map is also taking forever to package.

G'day @HollyTorpey_LSA . You're not alone in this, with threads like this bemoaning the problem. Unfortunately it's one of those longstanding ESRI-isms that's plagues the working day. It's just janky. Seems better than it was, but every time making an offline area is an exercise in breath-holding.

I think it's something more than the usual jankiness. I'm used to it failing occasionally and then working the second or third time I try, but this packaging for 14 hours is new (I let it run all night). Then this morning, I cancelled those and tried again and it worked. We made several offline maps this morning with no problem, but now we're getting failures a couple of hours later. Not packaging forever this time, but just failing. And this is the same map we made an offline map for earlier today with no problem. No changes to the map, just a slightly larger area. And we also can't make a small offline area on that same map. Reducing the level of detail doesn't help, and in any case, I've made much larger offline areas before. It also fails if we try to download an offline area within the mobile app.

I also just tried making an offline area for the same map I successfully made several for this morning, and I got this fun error (I haven't changed anything in the map):
