I have a web map set up to collect data in the field. I have several service views that each have multiple layers within the view. I have also brought in some layers multiple times with different filters and symbology in order to create unique features that a field team can map. I have set up forms with custom scripts and templates to achieve this and this works great on the web map, but does not translate well to the Field Maps app. See the screenshots attached. For some layers in the map it works fine, but for others I get results like the one below.
Create features option in web map with the correct symbology:
Create feature options in Field Maps with the incorrect symbology for sample grid and structures:
The "Sampling Grid" , "Structures", and "Surface Type" layers in the map come from the same layer in the same view and are only differentiated by a filter and symbology set in the web map.
The views are a 1:1 of the feature service, with only 1 filter before being added to any web map.
Is this a bug? Or should I be setting up the view differently to achieve my desired results?
Hi @BeLockwood , I believe you are running into a limitation. Does this look similar to your issue? https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-field-maps-questions/symbology-is-no-longer-working-in-field-ma...
It looks like they were having issues with their custom expressions not populating correctly in the template editor. My issue is that regardless of the type of symbology expression (custom, single, or no field set), the template set for a layer does not always "carry over" to Field Maps, or does so incorrectly.
I played around with it some more this morning and found that, where the symbology template was duplicated incorrectly, I could create a new feature and it would have the correct fields anyway (i.e selecting the concrete symbology under the structures layer in Field Maps would bring up the correct structure related fields [including pre-populated ones] indicating it was a structure) for me to fill out and submit. I also noticed that anytime I changed the template for one layer, another template for a copy of the same layer would would change to the template I just created. I guess it can be a limitation, I'll play around with creating a new view with these filtered layers pre-set, but it feels like a bug/should be do-able in the web map.
Hey @BeLockwood, sorry about that! A workaround I could think of is to create separate Feature Layer Views of each? Wish you all the best!
