Description:
We use a single web map in Map Viewer to support both an Instant App for office use and a Field Maps mobile app for field crews. Some layers in the map (e.g., large image services or non-sync-enabled data) are essential for office workflows but cannot be taken offline.
Currently, we are forced to maintain two nearly identical web maps:
One that includes all layers for use in Instant Apps (including the non-syncable layers).
Another stripped-down version for Field Maps that excludes those layers to avoid offline download errors.
Request:
Add a checkbox or similar setting in Field Maps Designer that allows me to exclude specific layers from the offline area download while keeping them visible in the web map itself. This way:
I can maintain one Map Viewer web map.
Office users continue to see all layers.
Field users can download an offline area without sync errors caused by non-syncable content.
Why It Matters:
This would reduce redundancy, streamline map maintenance, and improve the experience for both office and field staff. The current workaround—duplicating maps and manually keeping them in sync—is inefficient and error-prone.
Here is an example of what this might look like in field maps designer:
YES THIS PLEASE
yeah would love this rather than having to created a new "Offline" version of the map
I think this a is good idea. It could be integrated into the Offline compatibility check function which flags errors based on layer settings. Shows an Error or tick the "Exclude from Offline downloads" box and errors are ignored (or downgraded but still shown for visibility).
