Hope I'm understanding your question correctly. To look at just one layer at a time, turn off all layers and then turn the layer of interest back on. Turning layers off/on is accomplished by checking the visibility box to the left of the layer name in the Contents area. (see attached snapshot, with the visibility box highlighted and circled.)

If you don't have a Contents area visible, click the Home tab and then the tool named Contents Window. Then follow steps above.
And yes, the software works very well on Windows 7.
