Problem with 3D

hi,
Meanwhile congratulations to the new forum, but know that many old threads have been deleted.
Then propose again the problem:
I can not view maps in 3D. Every time I switch from 2D to 3D program crashes and the only solution is to close. Also I get an error saying: "you have experienced problems during the final 3D visualization, sure to continue?".
What causes this problem? Basemap is already impossible to access (because the connection is via a proxy server in my company), at least I was hoping to use the map in 3D.
The problem is due more to the proxy?
the video card drivers are updated, OS: Win Vista, 4Gb RAM.
thanks for the answers

Mike,

I do indeed have the latest drivers. So, are you guys using DirectX or OpenGL calls? I assume someone there is aware that Win7 Intrecepts OpenGL and redirects to DirectX...

Paul,

The 3D display requires OpenGL. I'm not aware of any OpenGL interception / redirection issues with Windows 7 (there were reports before Vista was released that this was going to be the case but it didn't happen) but we have some great 3D guys who know their stuff so I'm confident they'll be aware of any potential issues that might crop up.

Are you experiencing the same issue on all the PCs you have tried?

Other machines run ok, but they don't have Intel HD graphics.

Intel says:
"Intel® HD Graphics support hardware acceleration for OpenGL* applications in 16-bit and 32-bit color depths. The latest Intel® graphics drivers provide support for the OpenGL version 2.1."
Alas, the Motion Computing j3500 is our target machine.

Mike,

Just changed Intel HD 3D settings to all be 'Application Settings" and it changed error behavior.

Hard crash.

Generated attached dump file/error report.

Paul,

Unfortunately I don't think the file attached correctly. Presumably you clicked send on the error reporter (which means we'll have received it and analysed the dump file) but if you want to try reattaching it (or email it directly to mbranscomb@esri.com) that's fine.

Paul,

Received the dump files - we're taking a look to see if there's anything in them which will give help us determine what's happening.

Cheers

Paul,

We've been through the dump files you sent - all we can tell is that the crash occurs in the graphics driver when switching to 3D. Unfortunately this means there is no issue we can directly address to resolve the crash you're experiencing.

I'm having a problem similar to what "sertac" posted. I have eight or so .lyr files that I can bring into ArcGIS Explorer (build 1500) and zoom around in 2D with no problems. If I load only one of the .lyr files into my map, I can switch into 3D and it appears to work fine. If I load more than one, it hangs ("not responding," no CPU cycles, needs Task Manager's End Task to close).

I'm using an almost-new Dell workstation with a high-end NVIDIA Quadro graphics card (yes, just updated the drivers today), running Windows 7 64-bit. The data is all coming from the same file geodatabase feature class, with the .lyr files having definition queries, scale extents, etc.

Peter,

We've recently identified an issue with certain Layer Files / Layer Packages - where Explorer hangs when navigating. If you're able to upload a Layer Package which replicates this issue, it would help us fully explore the nature of this issue.
