Low resolution of raster images

I have created a series of layers using Arc10, each made up of a series of individual raster images, which have then been georef'd and projected into the GB (1936) grid (British National Grid). These appear fine in other forms of ArcGIS desktop (from 9.1 to 10), but when these are imported into Explorer, the resolution is appaling, unless you zoom in closely (about 1:500 or less....). Is there any way I can improve the resolution in Explorer, so when zooming out over an area it is clear (ie looking at a complete city, rather than a couple of streets)? Is there something I have not done correctly for this?

Are you referring to ArcGIS Explorer 2D, 3D or both?
Are you adding a layer file, that references the image, or just adding the image directly?

Taking a guess, if it is a layer file and you are working in 3D it could be the "raster resolution" layer property. In ArcGlobe check this property, set it if necessary, and save the layer file.
