I have installed ArcGIS Explorer on our internal LAN and am trying to connect it to our ESRI Data Appliance which is also behind the firewall to use the base maps, geo-coding, services, etc. Is this doable? I tried going to Add Content and setting the services there but I keep getting an error that states "failed to connect", even though I know that all of the services are running and the servers are fine. Can I do this through the ArcGIS Explorer interface, or do I need to set all this in the application's configuration files? Any help that anybody might be able to provide would be appreciated. Thanks.

Check to make sure you can make an Internet Connection to the Data Appliance. From the client machine enter the following URL into a browser: http://<data applicance machine name>/ArcGIS/Services?wsdl If this returns some XML, you should be able to connect to it by adding data from a GIS Server in ArcGIS Explorer.

If you still experience issues connecting to the Data Appliance, please contact ESRI Support Services so someone can take a look at it and help you out.

What ports are required to be open for the data appliance?  Is it just port 80/443?
