Hello. Hopefully someone can help me answer this quickly. I have a feeling I'm not going to like the answer but have been pleasantly surprised before. 🙂  I'm putting together an ArcGIS Explorer file for a client to run on a desktop machine.  I was recently informed that the client just purchased a MacBook Air.  Is ArcGIS Explorer desktop version compatible with this device?  I'm not a mac person AT ALL so I thought I'd throw the question up here.

Thanks!!!

You won't be able to run ArcGIS Explorer desktop on Mac. ArcGIS Explorer Online could be run on mac: http://explorer.arcgis.com/

I figured that was the case. Thanks. My next issue is then how to add data to my online map. I don't run a GIS server so I don't think I can add my data to be used online.

You cannot add local data to the online version.

You are able to add content online.

- Shapefiles
- CSV
- GPX

Shapefiles must be ZIPPED.

You are unable to edit data with out access to an SDE, however I think that SDE is being replaced for ArcGIS for Server 10.1.

I have a Mac and I use both ArcGIS Explorer Desktop and ArcGIS Desktop.  Like many Mac users, I sometimes have to open my Windows software.  There are a variety of software options for adding a Windows portal.  It might be worth checking with the client to see if this is an available option.
