ArcGIS Explorer Layer Packages - Not showing lines

I am new to setting up items for my field guys to use on ArcGIS Explorer.

I have a map with lines and points with labeling.  I have it in ArcGIS 10 and ArcGIS Explorer on my machine and it works fine.  Labeling is correct and all lines are there.

However, when putting everything into layer packages so the labeling works correctly in ArcGIS Explorer, whether building the package out of ArcGis 10 or the most recent ArcGIS Explorer build, it will not show the lines after sending it to my field guys.

All of the labels show up, however, you cannot see any of the lines.  The contents window shows they are there, they are showing the right symbols, the attribute table is correct, however, they just are not physically on the map.

I have created each set of lines into a layer with all of the information formatted correctly.  Then I take all the layers together and export as Layer Package out of ArcGIS Explorer, just as the instructions online state.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried >Right-click on LPK in the table-of-contents in ArcGIS Explorer Desktop and choose "Refresh"?
Are your featureclasses grouped?  Have you tried ungrouping featureclasses?

Have your tried ArcGIS Explorer Desktop build 2500?

Yes, I have tried the referesh.  I am working on doing them one at a time now instead of grouped.

How do I find out what build I am using?

Build 2500 was released last week.
Some items created in ArcMap 10.1 will not work in versions of AGX earlier than 2500.

To find your build...
Click on the orb in the upper left-hand corner
Choose the ArcGIS Explorer Options button at the bottom of the dialog window
Click on the Resources button in the table of contents on the left side
See the bottom item - About ArcGIS Explorer
You should see something like:  ESRI ArcGIS Explorer 1750 (2.0.0.1750)

I am on Build 2500.. I am using ArcGIS 10.0 and not 10.1.

I was able to create new layer packages from ArcGIS 10.0 and was able to get them to work finally in ArcGis Explorer.  However, the speed is extremely slow.  However, it does work, which is a huge plus!

Now on to figuring out the speed issue......

Thanks for the help!

How did you get the layer packages to work in ArcGIS Explorer Desktop?

I am having a similar problem--layers appear to be working correctly in ArcMap (10.1) but when I try to export to a layer package, ArcGIS Explorer (build 1750) does not open up the layer package correctly. Strange thing is I was able to export a layer package from this same MXD 3 weeks ago and open up layer packages without issue.

Appreciate if you shared the steps you took to get there and successfully open up the layer packages in Explorer.

After loading the layer package, and it doesn't draw the lines, try clearing the cache only for that layer.  ON the Home tab click manage layers:  select the layer that doesn't redraw on left box: press clear Cache button.

This issue seems to have been magnified when we started using ArcGisExplorer under windows 7.

Thanks, barnweu. I tried clearing the cache with no success.

I resorted to re-creating the layers from scratch after copying the data to a new excel file.

Like a lot of problems I notice with ArcGIS, many times it's just a bug that doesn't make sense and you have to just try again. There's no logical reason it should work now--there was nothing different in the data or the way the layers were created.

Now, almost magically, the layer packages are being correctly projected in ArcGIS Explorer for Desktop.

I am attempting to build a layer package for field crew laptops for Arc Explorer. I have built lpk with Feature Classes in Arc 10.1. all the data, paths and the lpk are on a flash drive. When trying to load into Explorer off of the network, I get an "invalid file" message. It loads fine when on the network. Is there anyway to get .lpk's to load without internet access? or is there any other way to label features in Explorer?
Thanks
Mike

Michael:

Have you "Cleared" your basemap from the AGX table-of-contents?
>Home tab >Basemap >Clear Basemap

If you have a "Basemap" in the table-of-contents, AGX will expect an internet connection to fulfill that requirement.
