Activate Layer Visibility with Filter Widget

Greetings,

Can the filter widget activate and show the filter results of a layer?  I'd like to have the visibility of a layer off on a map but then show filter results on the map once it is run. Is this possible or does anyone know of a work around?

I haven't found a way to do this (I was looking the other day) but it should definitely be an enhancement suggestion.  Only workarounds I can think of are cumbersome like an entirely separate map or view to switch to that has the layer on before doing the filtering or training the users to switch the layer on after running the filter.  Sorry can't help more than that.
