The Select Widget automatically sorts layers included in the widget by the view order. It would be nice to be able to sort the layers by alphabetical order to make it easier for end users to find exactly which layer they want. Especially considering the Query Widget, Table Widget, etc. allow for manual sorting in the configuration pane for that widget.
