Hi,
It would be really useful if we could have a buffer option on the Draw widget. There are times when it is really helpful to be able to see buffered areas based on a point/line/polygon temporarily. Having this functionality in the Draw widget would be perfect, and would allow users to export a map showing these buffer areas or make decisions based on the information.
Thanks!
James
I know it’s been a couple of months, but the Select widget actually has a buffer feature built into it. The only limitation is that it doesn't display the buffer ring visually, but it will still select the parcels within that buffer area.
Here’s the link to our county web map:
County Web Map
If you hover over the fourth icon from the right, you'll find the 'Parcel Select' widget, which our planning department uses frequently with the buffer. Let me know if you need steps on how to use the Select widget with the buffer.
Hi @JudithWammack, it isn't that we want to necessarily select features within a certain distance of a feature it's much simpler really. The idea of having it within the Draw widget would be to show a visualisation of a buffer from a feature (point/polygon/line), which we could then put into a plan or screen grab the image to show the buffer zone.
Obviously you can draw a point/line/polygon on the draw widget but I just think being able to show a buffer from that feature would be very useful.
Hi @James_Shreeve , I understand now. I do wish the Select widget could also display the buffer zone. Before we switched to EB, our legacy county web map would show the buffer ring and allow selection within it. I understand the importance of the visual aspect for better clarity for the Draw widget.
@James_Shreeve The Query, Analysis and Near Me Widgets are able to make visual buffers. Take a look at those options. You should be able to find something useful in one of those Widgets.
@JeffreyThompson2 I'm aware of those widgets, and currently have the Near Me widget in our EB app but this is restrictive to one at a time and also starts the analysis (hence why it was added to the app) configured with the Near Me widget which isn't needed. I just think being able to visually indicate different buffers from the Draw widget would be beneficial - no analysis or selection alongside it. If I have a user who wants to show a buffer distance from a road and a building location, i'm struggling to see how that can be done (without creating new layers or using GP tools, which require a higher licencing online).
