When a layer is setup to only be edited for 'Attributes', the Edit widget does not have an option to 'Cancel' edits. The only option available is 'Update'.
As far as I know, if a user wants to cancel their edits they need to close the window/tab of the browser and then the edits are not saved.
While not nearly as intuitive as a Cancel button, the "Back button" (an Arrow, really) will prompt a user with the option to "Continue editing" or "Discard edits".
A cancel button would likely be better, but the back button is probably a step ahead of closing out of the Experience completely.
I would love to see a cancel button on the Edit widget whether editing attributes only or geometry and attributes. Here's a thread with further discussion: Solved: Re: Edit Widget - Cancel Edits - Esri Community.
Second what @D_Atkins said. You have to use the arrow but I've had to point that out to pretty much every user and seems it would be easier for them if there was a cancel option.
No need to close the whole tab - that would be a hectic workflow.
