A preview of the new features in Experience Builder for the October release of ArcGIS Online, scheduled for late October 2025. We'd like to highlight the new Login widget, redesigned Theme, accessible labels in each widget setting enabled by the A11Y buton, , and parity features with Web AppBuilder such as Split and Merge tools in the Edit widget.

Hi Jianxia, thanks for the preview, there looks to be some really interesting new features in there. Just a couple of clarifications:

  • The new login widget - will this prevent errors displaying if someone signs into the app and there are layers they don't have access to? We'd like to build an app that multiple users have access to but only certain layers show in the map for the user depending on the groups they're in. This is possible now but the user gets error warnings and we'd like to turn those off if possible for a cleaner user experience.
  • For clipped features in the near me tool, can you get area measurements for the clipped polygons in the generated list? And can you export the clipped features to another format like KML or shapefile?

Thanks

Anthony

@AnthonyJonesRSK

For clipped features in the near me tool, you will get area/length measurements for the clipped polygons/lines in the result list and you should be able to export to shapefile or KML at the layer level. Export to shapefile or KML is not supported at the batch export level when multiple layers are involved.

@AzizaParveen1, thank you for the clarification. That's great to know and will certainly be useful for some of our workflows.

@AnthonyJonesRSK, have you tried enabling the highlighted option to skip the warning when end users do not have credentials to access secured layers?

@Jianxia I probably should have brought this up earlier, but one or both of these options is broken. They worked fine on Developer Edition, but on the deployed application, they completely blocked access to secured layers for all users. I wasn't able to do a lot of testing on this problem since it was effecting the live application.

@JeffreyThompson2, Thank you for letting us know. We will try to reproduce it in a deployed app from the developer edition. cc to @Wei_Ying.

Thanks @Jianxia ,

I can't wait to give a try to the "page-level access based on groupes or role" !!

Hello @Jianxia, I do have a couple questions about the login widget announcement.

1. Will the Login widget have an option to force a sign in, via popup or redirect, immediately upon opening the application, before any other action occurs, even if there are no secured Enterprise resources required?

2. Will there be a way to hook into the widget to know when it completed successfully so we can grab the user's current/active token?

These questions stem from a question I posted here only days ago. In short, we need to be able to initiate a sign in immediately, before any requests are made so we can use the token in our own non-Enterprise requests. While we've gotten close to accomplishing this, it seems we haven't fully initialized SessionManager.

Hi @Jianxia,  thank you for your response. I had no idea that was an option and so we've enabled it in one of our applications and it does exactly what we need. We hope to utilise this further in other applications where we may need to manage what layers users can see. Thanks for your help.

This sounds great, thank you! Could EXB please add "shortcuts menu" tool as well? I know the keyboard still functions for map navigation, but only in instant app is there a tool you can turn on where there are instructions. This will help comply with WCAG

Do you know when the Timeline widget in EB will support imagery layers?  I have a time-enabled imagery service that I would like to use in EB, but currently only feature layers, map services and web maps are supported for the Timeline widget.

Hi @Jianxia,

Could you confirm if the Oct 25 release would include further enhancements to the “change the symbology of layers added at runtime” feature introduced in June 25? See below the additional features we are looking for.

I have been working with our assigned account managers for months on this but I can't get confirmation that these have been put on your and the ExB team's radar for an upcoming release. Coming straight to the source to make sure that it is indeed already in the product plan and for which release it could be targeted for.

1. Will we be able to update the symbology of individual features (individual points or lines) within a layer? (Ex: A layer contains multiple polylines and I would need each of them to have a different symbology)

2. Our organization uses its own custom points and lines symbology published and setup in our organization settings as a “2D web styles group”. Will we be able to pull the custom points and lines symbology from our own web styles group? Ideally we would like to even be able to default the new points and lines symbology added with "add data" to our own symbology from our "2D web styles" group.

Happy to continue the conversation separately with any ExB development team member to further present the needs if necessary.

Thank you very much for all your and the team's effort - Great to see all the ExB added features improvements over the new releases!

Hi @Jianxia @TonghuiMing any update on my below request? I'm not seeing it on EXB as a tool since the update. Below is a picture of tool as seen on instant apps

Hi @Jianxia,

*New comment post Oct 2025 ExB release*

I can now see that the new features discussed in my previous comment above are not part of the Oct 2025 release. The support team helped me in creating the enhancements request related to the new features sought after:

- ENH-000180486: Covers the need of being able to update the symbology of individual points and individual lines even if part of layers containing several points or several lines when added at runtime from a geojson file via the Add Data widget. Further to this to simultaneously have the ability to select the new symbology from our own organization custom “2D Web Styles” group. It looks to me that being able to select an individual points or line on the map and having an “Update Symbology” feature in that point or line individual pop up window features and being able to pull new symbology from our own “2D Web Style” group would do the trick. This would also ensure additional parity with the Arcgis Online Map Viewer Styling section capabilities.

- ENH-000180487: Covers the need to be able to change the default symbology of points and lines added at runtime from a geosjon file via the Add Data widget and for the new default symbology to be selected from our own organization “2D Web Style” group custom symbology. This setup could be made available in the ExB Add Data widget configuration for example to do away with all ExB users having to have orange points and purple lines every time they add new data from geojson files.

I just wanted to bring this to your and the ExB team’s attention to these as they would be fantastic additions to the ExB features not only for us but likely for many other users as well when reading the various discussions on this topic.

Thank you for all the ExB team’s hard work bringing all these new features to life throughout the quarterly releases!
