Utility Network Analyst: undefined connection is still accepted when digitizing,

For example, in the screenshot below, the main pipes with 12 inch diameter is not configured to be connected to a lateral pipes with ½ inch, nevertheless, ArcMap accepts this connection. I was assuming that ArcMap will providing a warning saying that this connection is not allowed. Am I correct?
