Have not worked with Chef at all and now I'm asked to upgrade a multi machine Enterprise, from 10.7.1 to 10.8 (or 10.8.1 when available), by using this automation tool.
in this case the initial install and also a previous upgrade was done manually. There are no customized recipes or anything available at this point.
I have searched for information in this matter but have not found much.
So I'm reaching out to people that have experiences from upgrading with Chef without using it in the install.
Is it as easy as using Chef in initial install? If not, is it even a good idea?
What problems can come up?
Did you ever find a way to use Chef as an automation tool? I'm looking at the same issue. Upgrading to 10.8.1 and am interested in switching from the manual method to an automated one. Thanks.
