Sorry if this is a dumb question, still fairly new at Portal.

I am looking to use the Analysis tools in Portal. Currently we are running Portal 10.5 with an unfederated server with our data is set up as an enterprise geodatabase data store.

Per this article:

Configure the portal to perform analysis—Portal for ArcGIS (10.5.x) | ArcGIS Enterprise

it says that we cannot use analysis tools if we are using an enterprise geodatabase.

We set up our portal the way that our organization required us to, but it seems have some functionalities lacking. Is there anyway to get around this? In order to perform analysis, do we need to set up a separate portal server?

Any help would be appreciated!

thanks

Hi Joanne,

To enable and use the analysis tools in the Portal Map Viewer, you need to have a hosting server configuration with your Portal. This means that you need to have a GIS Server configurated with the ArcGIS Data Store that is federated with Portal for ArcGIS (this is also known as a base deployment of ArcGIS Enterprise).

Base ArcGIS Enterprise deployment—ArcGIS Enterprise | ArcGIS Enterprise

When you run and execute the analysis tools in the Portal Map Viewer, the newly created data will be stored in the ArcGIS Data Store and their associated feature services will reside in the "hosting" GIS Server.

You could federate your current GIS Server with Portal and make it a hosting server. And you can still use the enterprise geodatabase as a valid data store for the GIS Server to power your web services.

FYI, you may want to review this whitepaper,

Hope this helps,
