Hi everyone,

@JonathanQuinn @JakeSkinner @DerekLaw @George_Thompson @jcarlson @JayantaPoddar @RandallWilliams @ChristopherPawlyszyn

I’ve completed Esri’s advanced ArcGIS Enterprise deployment courses, but I still struggle with the foundational networking and IT concepts that Enterprise relies on. I don’t come from a systems‑admin background, so topics like DNS, firewalls/ports, certificates, load balancers, and proxies are still unclear to me.
My current environment:

  • ArcGIS Enterprise 11.4 on a single VM
  • PostgreSQL on a separate VM
I currently have a new ArcGIS Enterprise on a single VM, with PostgreSQL on a separate VM. Since it’s a fresh environment with no production data, it’s easy for me to experiment, break things, and rebuild — which is why I want to learn the right fundamentals now. I am aiming to learn to follow a learning plan for
  1. Networking basics — DNS, ports, firewalls, NAT
  2. Web technologies — HTTPS, SSL/TLS certificates, reverse proxies
  3. Server fundamentals — Windows/Linux basics, services, processes, logs
  4. Enterprise concepts — load balancing, security basics, high‑level architecture

If you know any beginner‑friendly resources (online courses other than ESRI or a structured path that helped you or your team, I’d appreciate your suggestions.

Thanks!
Hussain
