Merging tables from linked server and creating a spatial view

I have two identical tables in different SQL Server databases that I would like to be able to merge into a single table in my GIS SQL Server database to be able to publish spatial views from in my Portal. I have the tables merged in my enterprise gdb but when it is joined I get random numbers appended to the join table field names, see below, the _20 is random. I cannot symbolize or label the features by the joined fields.
This should work, shouldn't it?
