Image Disappears

We have several generations of aerial photography that have all started acting oddly.

When zoom in and pan around in ArcMap the image will occasionally stop rendering, show as blank, continue to pan around and it will render, continue and it will eventually not render, and so on.

ArcGIS 10.3.1

Images are all single large images, not mosaics. Cached, pretty much set up with default settings.

Just looking for suggestions on where to start in on this.

Does your cache status say 100% complete?

Are you using exploded or compact cache?

Turns out our primary image is a 100% but a couple of the others are not, so assuming those will need the cache rebuilt.

But all the images exhibit the problem irregardless of cache completion status.

Not sure on the cache type, will have to determine.

Did this recently start happening, or is this a new issue?

Also,  does this happen locally when connecting to the GIS Server inside your network, or from connecting from an internal ArcGIS Desktop client to an ArcGIS Server located outside of your network?

Also, picking up on what Michael mentioned above, is it the case that some tiles in the cache display and some don't, or is the display completely blank?

Do you see similar issues when viewing the image service in the ArcGIS.com map viewer?

Finally, how many users see this issue?

Regardless,  the first thing I'd try would be to clear the local ArcMap cache. That will force ArcMap to re-download the tiles locally.

If that doesn't seem to help, the next thing I'd do would be to download and run the Fiddler tool from https://fiddler2.com, open it up,  and reproduce the issue. Fiddler is a web debugging tool that will let you see the requests for each tile individually and might give a clue as to the issue.
