Export Web Map Task: Failed to create layer from service at <URL> while printing map from map viewer

Hello Community,

We are on ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9.1 multi-machine deployment with all the components installed on different machines. While trying to print web maps following observations are made:

• When using Print Service of ArcGIS Enterprise (ArcGIS Server) we are getting the following error: Failed to create layer from service at https://services.arcgisonline.com/arcgis/rest/services/Elevation/World_Hillshade/MapServer
• When using Print Service of ArcGIS Online we are able to print basemap however, not able to print any operational layer and getting the same error of Failed to create layer from service at <URL>.  

Hence, I wanted to know:

• Does the machine on which ArcGIS Server is installed needs to have internet access. 
• If, above is true then how can one print a service when internet access is not present on ArcGIS Server. 

Additionally, are there certain pre-requisite that needs to be met for print service to work.

Any inputs on this would be appreciated.

Hi @wizgis 

This error occurs because the ArcGIS Server service account does not have the necessary permissions to generate output while executing the Export Web Map task. If, the account lacks write access to the required directories under the arcgisserver folder.

Also, ensure that proxy settings are correctly configured not only for the Windows administrator account but also for the ArcGIS Server service account. This can be done by going to Internet Options > Connections > LAN settings

Hi @wizgis.,

It seems your default print service is not working as expected. Could you try creating custom print service.
