I'm getting this error when trying to start Portal:

Portal for ArcGIS does not have a valid license.

I've bounced the license manager and re-authorized the license.

I'd rather not un-install/re-install if I can avoid it, so . . . thoughts?

What is the version of Portal?

If it is ver. 10.5, you will need authorize a license of the same version. Older license codes/files won't work.

Moreover (I think you know this), the license code for Portal for ArcGIS is different from the code of ArcGIS Server.

Also, ArcGIS Enterprise isn't tied to the ArcGIS Desktop license manager. Do you have a perpetual or term license? It may be that the license has expired. Check down in \\program files (x86)\esri\license10.x\sysgen - there should be a 'keycodes' file. Open it with notepad and the expiration date should be noted.

Was your portal working previously?

Version is 10.2.1

We are just now starting to look into Portal, and yes it was working as of a couple of weeks ago.

Expiration in the keycodes file is 15-Oct-2018

OK. I've seen cases where the keycodes file has expired line-items that can cause issues like this. Besides the line for Portal for ArcGIS, are there any other products or extensions that may have expired listed in the keycodes file?

Hi All,

I faced the same message using the builder , but after uninstalling it and move with the standalone machine setup it works.
