Hello,
We installed arcgis server 10.1 on its own server. On the GIS server I am able to connect to the server services through catalog. But, when I go to my local computer and try to connect to the server "http: servername:6080/arcgis" I get a error message: Error Proxy server got bad address from remote server (verify that server is running).
How will I be able to resolve this.
Thanks,

adding a few rules to Windows Firewall corrected this 'none connection' issue for me.

4 rules total:  Inbound port 6080 TCP and UDP; Outbound port 6080 TCP and UDP

after those ports were open; connections could be established (in my case)

Win Server 2008 R2 - ArcGIS Server 10.2.2   Web Adapter configured but not SSL yet.

Did you configure the security for ArcGIS server 10.1 at all from ArcGIS server manager?
If you did, please make sure that the authentication tier is "GIS" if you want to use http://<server_name>:6080 in ArcCatalog
Configuring server to use the web tier requires you to use the web adaptor connection and not the going through the local
server port 6080.

Post back if this is not the case.

buwembo,

I ran into this exact error message. I installed 10.1 used it for an hour and everything connected OK through ArcCatalog. I installed 10.1 SP1 and everything went down hill from there. I could no longer connect to ArcGISServer through ArcCatalog.

I've uninstalled/reinstalled 10.1 numerous times but I can't get past this error message.

Good Morning,

I too have the issue of not being able to connect to ArcGIS Server from ArcCatalog, I get the same error message as Dira.  I recently secured my server with https and prior to this I did not have an issue.  I have tried connecting via https://myserver:6443/arcgis as well as http://myserver:6080/arcgis but with no luck.

I was wondering if anybody would be able to help me out?

Thanks,
Ian

I just upgraded to 10.4 and I secured my services like yours using https on port 6443. Did you find a resolution to this? I'm getting the same errors.

Thanks,

Brent
