Hi there,
I am working with ArcGIS server 10.6, web Adaptor, and Portal.
I have been trying to solve this error message I get every time I try to publish a new service. The service is packaged but not published in my portal.
I checked the status of the publishing tools they are all started.
The log messages are quite vague.
I saw many threads about patches, and previous versions of ArcGIS server. I did apply the patch, restarted everything but still the same result. I tried to repair the server. Same results.
It's like the server and portal do not talk to each other anymore.
If someone has any idea, I am interested.
Thanks.
Mel

We have two webadaptor. One on the portal machine and another one on the ArcGIs Server machine.
If we federated the ServicesURL using HTTPS, and we do not see a 443 binding, this could be our issue. I would suggest adding a 443 binding to IIS: Enable HTTPS on your web server—ArcGIS Web Adaptor (IIS) Installation Guide (10.6.1) | ArcGIS Enterp....
Ok I am not sure I understand here. The configuration of the server is http/https. The ServicesURL is in http, the AdminURL is in https. Is this our problem?
Ok so here is what I did following your email:
1/ I created a self-signed certificate on IIS
2/ I binded it with https/443 port
3/ Checked if I could connect to the webadaptor via htpps -> it works
4/ Checked if I could load the server manager page via https -> the page loaded
5/ Restarted the server
6/ Tried in ArcMap a user and a publisher connection and got this error: "bad syntax in request".
Hey Melanie,
The "Bad syntax" error is typically happening due to information being provided in the connection. Make sure when you make the connection in ArcMap, use the either the ServiceURL or Admin URL via HTTPS (https://webadaptorname/arcgis or https://servername:6443/arcgis) and you will want to provide Portal login credentials. If these issues continue, I would highly suggest having a support case created!
Hey Trevor,
Many thanks for your help. I managed to connect in ArcCatalog and ArcMap using the https://webadaptorname/arcgis URL.
I still have a problem with the publishing tools though but I found this page: Error: The server is not ready for publishing. Please check if the Publishing Tools on the server ar... so I am gonna try to solve this new issue. Might be because I am using a VPN connection and it might be unstable. I will try publishing a service definition.
Regarding the support case, we did create one, but so far the questions/answers provided did not solve any problem. Your help has been great and I manage to solve most of the issues I got. I am learning as I do it, portal federation is all new to me.
Thanks again for the help, it's been very valuable and greatly appreciated.
