U.S. Projection

I am trying to project a map of the United States like it is shown in the lower map of the image attached

I have used the Define Projection (Data Management) Tool and tried all of the available Albers Equal Area Conic projections as well as setting the data frame to the same projection chosen using the Define Projection tool but the map always stays similar to the top map in the attached picture. Can anyone give me some guidance?

Hi Bailey,

What projection was your data originally in? I would suggest defining your data back to the original coordinate system and then using the Project tool (not Define Projection tool) or change your data frame coordinate system.
