Symbol Won't Appear in Legend

I am currently working a map that is supposed to dictate aeromedical resources. I want to use the helicopter symbol to represent the helicopters throughout the state but when i export the map to a pdf or print it the helicopters only show up in the map and there is no symbol in the legend. How do i get the symbol to show up in the legend?

Can you post a screenshot?

Well a screenshot will show it in my legend. The symbol appears in the legend until you try to export the map as a PDF or you try to print it out and then it disappears
