Hi,

We try to upgrade Portal from version 10.6.1 to 10.8.1 and we keep receiving the error message few minutes after we select the license file and click the button "Continue Portal Upgrade" (see attached image):

"There was an error when attempting to upgrade the existing portal.
Failed to import data to the content directory correctly. Unable to unzip portal content." (See attached image).

Esri told us to do the next steps:

  1. Stopped the Portal for ArcGIS service.
  2. Delete the Thumbs.db files from C:\ arcgisportal\ content\ items.
  3. Start the Portal for ArcGIS service.
  4. Navigate to Portal Home endpoint and begin the upgrade.

We also restarted the whole machine few times.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix it? Everything else like Datastore, ArcGIS Server and Web Adaptor for ArcGIS Server where upgraded without any problem. Only the Portal refuses...

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Miri

Hi @MiriEshel,

There are a variety of reasons you might encounter this error. First off, have you ensured that the service account that runs Portal for ArcGIS has "Full Control" access to the Portal's installation and content directories?

If the service account is a local account, you might want to try a domain-joined account instead and attempt to run the upgrade again.
